The construction of the Airbus A380, the worlds biggest airliner, is a prestige- project massively funded by the EU in an attempt at taking up the competition against American Boeing. As a consequence of this funding, the wealthiest EU countries demanded their share of the production, thus dividing the construction between them: wings in Chester (GB), tail and interior in Hamburg (DE) and fuselage and final assembly in Toulouse (FR).
This staggering logistical challenge put national laws and private ownership aside as the project gained the highest of priorities in the respective countries.
By venturing to the production sites scattered across Europe, documenting the new infrastructure this production-scheme needed, I have attempted to portrait how political, diplomatic and economical interests intermingle and the somewhat bizarre results this produces.
